Wine to Rivers tour
September 13 – 17, 2023
Pacific Railcar Operators “PRO” is pleased to announce a “Wine to Rivers” tour in Southeast Washington State, and Northeast Oregon. Wednesday, September 13th, we will set on to the Columbia-Walla Walla Railway in Dayton, WA. Thursday, we will tour to Walla Walla, WA. Following lunch, we will return to Dayton and set off. 70-miles round trip. We have arranged for a tour of the historical Union Pacific Depot located in Dayton following the run. Friday is a travel day to LaGrande/Island City, OR.
The Walla Walla area is known as one of the nation’s finest wine regions. This lush valley offers more than 120 wineries consisting of 2,900-acres of grapes. A unique combination of climate, character, and culture makes the wine born in the Walla Walla Valley something extremely special.
Friday afternoon, September 15, we will set on to the Idaho Northern and Pacific Railroad in Island city, OR. Saturday we will tour to Elgin, OR, where we switch over to the Wallowa Union Railroad, and continue to Joseph, OR. At Joseph, we will turn our motorcars and return the short distance back to Enterprise and tie down for the night. Sunday we will return to Island City and set off. 166-miles round trip.
LaGrande/Island city sits at the eastern base of the Blue Mountains, at the edge of one of the largest enclosed circular valleys in the United States, with over a million acres of fertile soil surrounded by snowcapped mountain peaks. On our way to Elgin, we will pass through this agricultural land including aromatic mint fields. As we arrive closer to Elgin, we begin riding along the peaceful Grande Ronde River. Between Elgin and Minam, we are on a roadless section of track as we continue to follow the Grande Ronde River, and then turn up the wild and scenic Wallowa River. Our journey continues up the Wallowa River, eventually breaking out into some spectacular views of the Wallowa mountains.

Send the registration for the run(s) of your choice, and a check for the amount listed below to the proper EC. Upon receipt of your check, we will email you a run packet with further information.
