Oct 3-6, 2024  -  Vaughn to Coquille, Oregon

Coos Bay Rail Line Teddy Bear Toy Express

from Vaughn to Coquille, Oregon

October 3-6, 2024

This will be our biggest and best Teddy Bear Toy Express yet! Joining us this year are Santa and Mrs. Claus —hopefully, an elf or two will come along to help!  We’re adding an additional stop in Reedsport this year, along with stops in Mapleton and Lakeside.  The run fits in nicely with the other scheduled PRO October runs as Hood River, Prineville, and Goose Lake are scheduled the following days.  Hopefully, Oregon Coast Scenic at Tillamook can be worked into the lineup.  Saturday afternoon at 3:30 pm on the excursion we will host the PRO Annual Meeting in the Red Lion Banquet room for those who wish to attend.  At this time, we are unsure if we can go to Coquille on Saturday.  We will update as we know.

Please join us on this 250-mile 3-day motorcar excursion across 119 bridges and nine tunnels.  The bridges include 3-swing span bridges and tunnels that range from 477 feet to 4,177 feet long.  The excursion departs from the Rosboro Lumber Company in Vaughn, Oregon (near Veneta, OR).  Set-on is Thursday afternoon, Oct 3, 2024.  Dry camping is available at the set-on site.  Friday Oct 4, 2024 we will travel about 100-miles one-way to the City of Coos Bay.  We will be staying two-nights at the Red Lion Hotel Coos Bay, which is not included in the excursion fee. Contact the hotel directly via phone for PRO discounted rooms at (541) 267-4141. You will need to bring everything with you on your motorcar (suitcase, lunch, & extra gas).  Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024 will be an approximately 50-mile round trip excursion from Coos Bay to Coquille (subject change).   We will also stop at the Oregon Coast Historical Railway museum.  Sunday Oct. 6, 2024 will be the return 100-mile one-way excursion from Coos Bay to Vaughn.  A minimum of 23-cars is required. No refunds after Sept 12, 2024.  The Excursion Coordinator is Bill Andrews. Dave Klein is the ECIT and contact for paperwork.  The run fee is $600 per motorcar, which also includes a welcome banquet on Saturday night and two breakfasts for one operator and one passenger. Additional passengers may make food arrangements by contracting the excursion coordinator.  The run fee does not include any hotel stays.  Sorry, no High-Rail vehicles. Be sure to sign up early so no one misses out!

A four to five hour mentoring program is available on the morning of Thursday Oct 3, 2024 starting at 8:30 am.  Contact the Mentoring Manager Bill Andrews ASAP at phone # << Click Here >> or Nancy Andrews at phone # << Click Here >>.    The mentoring requirements are carefully outlined on the NARCOA.org webpage under the Document pulldown.  https://www.narcoa.org/docs/mentoring/mentoring02-22.pdf

As you may have heard, the Coos Bay Rail Line is upgrading the rail line between Eugene and Coos Bay in preparation for hauling shipping containers from a new container shipping facility on the North Spit.  This will add six double stack train each way per day. The CBRL has replaced 44,000 ties, upgraded bridges, and tunnel clearances to be able to make the trip in one shift.  While the container port is still a couple years away, it is not known how much longer the railroad will have time for us.  Please join us while we can still offer this amazing motorcar run.  Truly one of the most beautiful rail lines on the West Coast.
