2018 PRO Excursion Calendar

Niles Canyon Railroad

PRO is sponsoring, a rides for the public event with the Niles Canyon Railroad, on Saturday, August 11  We need operators with large cars to provide seats for this event.  This is a free run for operators who can provide seats.  Please don't bring passengers as we need all seats available for the public.  Lunch will be provided to operators by the railroad.  If you can help, please email Al McCracken at:

City of Prineville RR

PRO is sponsoring rides for the public to celebrate the railroads 100 anniversary. We will run in conjunction with their passenger train, which may be steam hauled.

The event is free to operators.

There is a 10 car limit.

Rivers, Wineries, and Mountains

All on a 5 day PRO Washington Idaho excursion: set on in Walla Walla Sept. 6, next day off to Weston, OR, Sept. 8 Walla Walla to Port of Walula on the Columbia River. Sept. 9 onto Lewiston ID set on, followed by BBQ. Sept. 10 thru the historic Snake River canyon to Riparia. Wilds of Oregon

PRO is sponsoring a speeder run in the "Wilds of Oregon" starting on Thursday the 20 September at the City of Prineville RR. We will make two round trips over this scenic railroad which is celebrating its centennial this year. A no host lunch will be provided by a local volunteer group. The 21st will be a travel day to the set-on for the two day run over the IN&P and WURR from Island City to Joseph and return. Which will take place on the 22 & 23 of September. The run fee is $310 a minimum of 20 cars is required and a 35 car Maximum. I will send out a detailed run Package on receipt of your cheque.

Albany and Eastern

Set on at the former SP station in Lebanon starting at 0800, Safety Meeting at 0900. Depart for Sweet Home, approximately 16 miles, for lunch at McDonalds restaurant in Sweet Home, return to Lebanon for set-off. Mentoring available with reservation, $70 fee. Oregon Coast Scenic

Set on at the Tillamook Blimp Hangar (at the airport) from 0645 to 0730, Safety Meeting at 0800. Depart for Batterson to end of track after safety briefing, take a lunch break at Wheeler. Return through Wheeler, Rockaway and Garibaldi, with a stop there to visit the four active steam locos there, and then proceed to the Blimp Hangar for set- off. Mount Hood Railroad

Set on will be in the Hood River yard 110 Railroad Ave Hood River, OR 97031 starting at 7 AM going to 9 AM. Safety meeting at 9:30 AM leaving at 10 AM for a round trip to Parkdale. We will have stops in Odell, and lunch in Parkdale where there are several places to purchase food. This is a Mountain railroad with over 3% grades in some places. Will climb 1700', run 6 miles along the Hood River, see orchards, views of Mt Hood and Mt Adams. Should have some excellent Fall colors. RV dry camping is available the night before the run in the yard. Best Western is a nice close motel as well as others in town. Copper Basin Railway

Copper Basin Railway excursion on Friday, Oct 19th. 100 miles round trip. $80 per car. Limited to 40 motor cars (due to limited parking). Set-on in Hayden, AZ. Open to all NARCOA insured and NARCOA rulebook certified operators. However, mentoring new operators cannot be accommodated. Spark arrestors and brake actuated taillights required. Smoking NOT permitted in motor car or on RR property. To register, provide an email address as excursion information will be sent by email. 2018 Tentative Planning Calendar

PRO is pleased to present a preliminary outline of runs being planned for next year.

  • Railroads in Alberta Canada postponed until 2019 - EC Doug Gentles
  • June 21-24 - Coos Bay - EC Bill Andrews, cancelled (see above in red)
  • August 16-19 - Coos Bay - EC Guy Howard, see above in red
  • September 20 - City of Prineville - EC's Guy Howard & Rich Wilkins
  • September 22-23 - Island City to Joseph - EC's Guy Howard & Rich Wilkins
  • (TBD) October Coos Bay - EC Bill Andrews, see above in red

Work is under way to to return to some lines we have run in previous years. Lewiston, V&T, Copper Basin, Albany and Eastern, Oregon Coast Scenic, Lake View.

Remember these runs still await approval of the railroads, so keep checking the list for any changes. When runs are opened for signed up they will first be listed on the NARCOA site.
